Welcome to Cretaceous Mississippi!

This site has blossomed from a slight obsession with the incredible fossils I have found in Northeast Mississippi since 2016. Armed with an outstanding resource that I downloaded, printed, and bound at work, I would read about the geology and compare my fossils to those inside before and after every collecting trip.

In early 2018, I sent a photo to a professional for help with identification. He put me directly in touch with Dr. Earl Manning, whose publication I had been consulting all of this time! Learning more about the less common fossils, the geology, and the habitats, has given me an even deeper appreciation of these sites and the fossils that have become so close to my heart.

Special Thanks

I owe my most sincere thanks to Dr. Earl Manning for graciously answering countless emails from me with identification questions and for teaching me so much in the process. His patience and generosity is the reason that I felt compelled to create this site in an attempt to help other amateur collectors in Mississippi identify their Cretaceous fossils.

Thanks also to George Phillips, from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Sciences, for his help identifying some of the invertebrates.

Thanks especially to my Mom, for sharing her love of geology with me as a child, for support and encouragement in my decision to pursue and complete my BS in Geology (even though it supports merely a hobby, today), and for embarking on that road trip with me on her birthday in 2016 to hunt for shark teeth in Mississippi! Thanks also to my husband for encouraging me to enjoy the things I love!
